Imagine you have to to choose from chocolate and sugar, which would you consider the best? chocolate is a food made from cacao beans which is used to make dessert, ice cream, muffin and... cakes. So, you need chocolate to make cake, but in the other side we have sugar which is used to make sweetness so, you could have a coconut chocolate cake, coffee cake, liquorice cake and so on.
At the end you named it: chocolate is more complex and it improves the flavour.
Sugar is the definition of basic and as we all know basic cannot be the best, which makes chocolate the winner.
